Leah began her practice working with our society’s most vulnerable populations – persons addicted to substances, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault living with HIV, and juveniles – mainly young Black males with high risk behaviors – incarcerated in high secure facilities. Throughout her profession as a Clinical Therapist, many tried to talk her out of engaging in this work, but God had a bigger plan and helping these varying populations was a part of it! Leah found that this work led her to study more about what was driving such harmful behaviors and identified PTSD (“trauma”) as being a major factor. Leah then pursued and received a certification in trauma and specializes in traumatology. She is also trained in the nationwide, evidence-based model of QPR, which addresses suicide and the need to help save lives.

Leah is currently working in Community Mental Health with severe emotionally disturbed children and their families. In addition to her primary job, Leah is the Owner of Ntervene, LLC, where she offers mental reconstruction consultations and trainings to the leadership and front line staff of various systems and corporations. She helps them to understand the effects of mental health amidst their day to day operations. Leah then informs them on how to incorporate best practices to assist in the training of their internal customer, in order to retain their external customers. Leah is a sought out presenter for the State of Michigan’s Recipient Rights and Community Mental Health Conferences to assist all organizations under the State’s umbrella and receipt of federal and state funding, on the subjects of Trauma and “When It Makes a Complaint”, Looking Beyond the Behaviors and Identifying Trauma. She also was a presenter at the Community Mental Health Association for the State of Michigan on the topic of Communication Barriers Between Leadership and African Americans. Leah is also the go to presenter for health care, educational, judicial, and religious systems to help them become trauma-informed. In addition to presenting on the importance of addressing mental health concerns, Leah recently created a subsidiary to her parent company, Ntervene, LLC., called, BLAQ Playground.

This company was created to address the need for emotional safety and support within social systems for Black people. Many Black people face with an increase in anxiety when they have to interface with judicial, healthcare, educational systems and more. The increase in anxiety releases a stress hormone called Cortisol, which continually erodes at the internal system of the person. When under high stressed situations overtime, evidence has shown that there is a decrease in the lifespan of the individual. This evidence is found in the shortened lifespan of Black people due to institutional racism and the stress it presents. So Leah began to realize that the need for love, support, and safety of Black people was needed throughout all systems where humans are present. So she created the “Black rainbow” and “Black heart”, which represent all hues within the Black Community, to symbolize love and acceptance of persons of color, within all systems that services and employees people of color. The symbols are predominantly directed at the use of other ethnicities for the purpose of creating allies.

Leah is extremely goal driven and doesn’t find many free moments, as she is also a part-time Social Work Instructor at Washtenaw Community College, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is passionate about the mission of assisting humanity and her main desire, in all of the work and advocacy that she engages in, is to shift the world’s current culture and climate to one of inclusion and love. She does not consider what she does as work, but instead, as a divine purpose. Once this reality registered into her psyche, she has most recently decided to branch out and engage in corporate training and consulting, as well as motivational speaking. The continued witness of broken systems creating broken people was the catalyst for her new ventures. Most recently, Leah was sought out by international speaker, Shawn Fair of The Fair Consulting Group and FORBES, to be a speaker apart of his Leadership Experience Tour on May 30, 2020, on the topic of trauma. Mr. Fair immediately saw in Leah a remarkably rare gift of engagement and inspiration that allows her to captivate the attention of her audience and persuade them to make the necessary shifts for the better. Leah has realized that she helps educate, liberate, and rebuild more people through these avenues, then to solely do individual therapy. Leah is motivated to touch multitudes because of her commitment to God and His undying love for all.

With all of the hopelessness and helplessness in the world, today, you definitely need Leah to come and NTERVENE! She is more than ready to answer the call!
